Third try at Oatmeal Stout (a dry stout) --------------- expected stats: OG = 1.1054, FG = 1.013, IBUs = 35, SRM = a lot, ~5.2% abv Ingredients 10.0 lb Maris Otter (2 lbs less than OS II) 15 oz (toasted, though I think this doesn't make a difference) oats (16 oz pre-toasting. Toasted on 9/16) 4 oz Crystal 40L (hopefully this will add a bit more body) 8 oz Crystal 120L 8 oz Chocolate 8 oz Roasted Barley 8 oz rice hulls 1 tsp gypsum in mash 0.75 oz EKG 60 mins (5% AA) 0.75 oz Fuggles 60 mins (4% AA) 0.75 oz Hallertauer 60 mins (4% AA) 1 tsp gypsum in boil (entire thing) 1 tsp yeast nutrient (15 mins) 1 tsp Irish moss (15 mins) (harvested from previous Oatmeal Stout on 9/21/06) Wyeast 1084 (Irish Ale) 9/23/06 brew ------------ - mashed in grains with 170F water, temp started at 148F, ended at 147F - mashed for an hour - NOTE: used rice hulls this time!!! 10/2/06 rack ------------ - SG 1.018 - kept in primary too long! Was pretty much done 5 days in. - lots of yeast in suspension, so was gritty and really bitter - not sure of the actual flavor of the beer 10/19/06 keg ------------ - SG 1.0155 - Not quite as low as I'd like. Never really got to try it, as it was used for Brewtopia.
